Welcome to my blog

Well hello there and welcome! At many times during my career I have contemplated starting a blog, time constraints, and a lack of focus has always dissuaded me. Any blog was always going to be gadget and computer related but this in itself always seemed pretty limiting at the time, I mean how many posts on Microsoft Windows 7 can make for an interesting read?

So why now? Well because there’s so much cool stuff going on it would be a missed opportunity not to! By the end of this week we will have seen Microsoft’s vision for the future of Windows as they unveil Windows Threshold (real name tbc) to the world. Google glass went on sale just a couple of short months ago and Chromebooks are gaining ground in the laptop market. Our home stuff is getting clever to, we can now control the colour of our light fittings direct from an iPhone or have our Samsung smart watch call the doctor when we keel over on that jog around the block. There is so much going on in the tech world today that my interests and my job give me the opportunity to share with you.

Ah yes my job, I work as Director of Information Systems at a school, and a great school at that. We’re an independent with more freedom than the state sector and we have a forward thinking management team keen to explore the possibilities technology can offer. It’s throwing up some challenges to be sure and I can’t claim we’re the best in our field but I am given freedom and support to explore the full range of technology available to our students. We have a well established “bring your own device” scheme for our students all of which culminates in some fantastic and cutting edge tech passing through our office.

So alongside my work, my own gadget man interests at home (god bless my understanding wife), and all the cool people and sites I interact with on the World Wide Web, I hope to bring you some interesting observations on various things gadget and geek, and all in a prose just not possible with a tweet!

There will be technical articles which I hope the search spiders will make available to a wider audience, I know how wonderful it is to happen across a solution to a problem exactly the same as yours. However I intend to keep it light, I’m a keen mountain bike fan and have a love of the movies so expect some off topic action on the side.

To the blogosphere my friends….
